There are many options for pregnancy photos. From the dozens of lighting possibilites, to looks, outfits, props, you are in control of what you want to create. There are more things to choose from than I can express here. This is why I like to meet clients in person, so I can show and demonstrate what all your options are.

How A Maternity Photo Shoot Works

Los Angeles maternity photoshoots start well in advance. We first meet and look through my client closet to see what gowns I have that you like. We also check on colors or draping fabrics, cowns, headpieces and other props. You can think of this as a pregnancy photography fitting. Gowns can also be rented. This is why planning your maternity photoshoot early gives more options.

Once we have and idea about the 3 different gowns or looks you want, then I get to work creating other details for the session. Preparing the set etc. We also talk togetber about the kinds of poses you might like, or feel comfortable with. Not everyone wants to do the same poses. If your partner or other children will be at the session, then we think about ideas for those portraits too.

Most women like to have their hair and makeup done. Because of this, most pregnancy photoshoots start around 2 in the afternoon. This way you have time. I tell clients to plan on about 90 minutes for the session. It may go longer, but often, clients get tired after about an hour. During the photoshoot, clients can see each image as I take it, so we can discuss and make any changes we want. This way, by the time you leave, you already have a good idea about what the photos look like.

About 2 to 3 days later, you will see proofs. These are unretouched. You can select the images you want to be fully edited and retouched. Then, about 14 days after that, your prints and digitals will be ready.

Once you see what kind of gown for maternity photos you want, you are almost there. Katie will help you with hair and makeup artists in near our studio. Our maternitu studio is in a private setting, so you can feel comfortable.
