Mommy & Me Photography in Los Angeles

Family Photography Los Angeles

Your children will always remember how you loved them—but they also deserve beautiful portraits that show them just how deeply they were loved.

These fine art Mommy and Me portraits are inspired by the timeless beauty of classical paintings, capturing the quiet connection between mother and child with elegant styling, gentle posing, and soft, painterly light.

Portraits of You With the People Who Know You as Mom

Moms are often the ones taking the pictures. You photograph birthdays, vacations, first steps, holidays and ordinary days at home. Years later, there may be thousands of photographs of your children and surprisingly few beautiful photographs of you with them.

Mommy & Me photography is designed to change that.

At Panos Productions Photography, Mommy & Me sessions are private studio portrait experiences centered on the relationship between a mother and her child or children. Sessions are professionally lit and carefully directed, with attention to posing, expression, wardrobe and the small interactions that make each relationship different.

These aren't only photographs of your children.

They are photographs of you together.

Your Style. Your Story.

Mommy & Me portraits don't have to follow one particular style.

Some mothers are drawn to romantic, painterly portraits. Others want something simple, modern and contemporary. Your session can be designed around the style that feels right for you.

Painterly Motherhood Portraits

Inspired by classical portraiture and the great master painters, these images use rich tones, thoughtful lighting and carefully composed poses to create portraits with an heirloom quality.

They can be elegant, dramatic and timeless without feeling stiff or overly formal.

Modern Mommy & Me Photography

If your style is cleaner and more contemporary, we can create portraits with simple backgrounds, modern lighting and a more relaxed approach.

The emphasis remains on Mom and her children rather than elaborate scenery or props.

Your finished gallery can also include a combination of more traditional portraits and natural interaction, giving you both photographs looking at the camera and images that capture the connection between you.

A Mommy & Me Session Designed Around You

You don't need to know how to pose.

You don't need children who sit perfectly still.

And you don't need to arrive knowing exactly what to do.

Before your session, we'll discuss the ages of your children, wardrobe, the style of photographs you prefer and anything you would especially like to create.

During the session, I provide direction throughout.

That includes helping with:

  • Flattering posing for Mom

  • Positioning babies and children

  • Hands, posture and body angles

  • Expression and interaction

  • Clothing adjustments

  • Individual portraits with each child

  • Groupings when there is more than one child

  • Traditional portraits and more connected, interactive images

Not every pose flatters every woman in the same way. Part of professional portrait photography is recognizing what works for the individual person in front of the camera and making adjustments accordingly.

What If My Child Doesn't Cooperate?

Babies and young children don't arrive at a photography studio understanding the plan.

I don't expect them to.

A toddler may need to move. A baby may need to eat. A preschooler may decide that cuddling Mom is considerably more interesting than looking at my camera.

Sessions with young children need flexibility.

Rather than expecting children to perform on command, I work with their developmental stage and personality. Sometimes that means changing the pose. Sometimes it means letting a toddler move for a few minutes. Sometimes it means turning the interaction between Mom and her child into the photograph.

The objective isn't to make a young child behave like an adult portrait subject.

It's to create beautiful photographs.

Mommy & Me Photos With Babies

Some of the most meaningful Mommy & Me photographs happen during the first year.

A newborn fits completely into Mom's arms. A few months later, that baby begins smiling and responding. Then comes sitting, reaching, laughing and eventually crawling away.

Each stage creates completely different photographs.

Mommy & Me sessions can be created with newborns, older babies and sitting babies, with posing and expectations adjusted for your baby's developmental stage.

Mommy & Me Photos With Toddlers and Young Children

As children grow, the photographs change.

Toddlers bring movement and spontaneity. Preschoolers begin following more direction while still giving us genuine interaction. Older children allow for more sophisticated posing and portrait styles.

There isn't one perfect age for Mommy & Me photography.

The photographs simply tell a different story at each age.

More Than One Child? Absolutely.

Mommy & Me doesn't have to mean Mom with one child.

Sessions can include multiple children, and I like to photograph several combinations whenever possible:

  • Mom with all of her children

  • Mom with each child individually

  • Siblings together

  • Traditional portraits

  • Close-up photographs

  • Interactive moments

The individual portraits can be particularly meaningful because every mother-child relationship is different.

Include Grandma

Mommy & Me photography can also become a multigenerational portrait session.

Grandmother, mother and child together create a portrait of motherhood across generations.

We can also photograph Grandma with her daughter, Grandma with the grandchildren, Mom with her children, and the entire group together.

These sessions are especially meaningful around Mother's Day, but there is no reason to wait for a holiday to create them.

What Should You Wear?

Wardrobe has a significant effect on the finished portrait.

For Mommy & Me photography, I generally recommend starting with Mom.

Choose something that photographs beautifully and makes you feel comfortable, then coordinate the children's clothing around it.

You don't need to match.

In fact, complementary colors, different shades within the same color family and varied textures generally create a more sophisticated result than putting everyone in identical clothing.

Before your session, we can discuss wardrobe choices and how they will work with the style and backgrounds you're considering.

Professional Lighting and Posing

Studio photography gives me control over something that fundamentally affects every portrait: light.

Lighting can shape the face, create dimension, emphasize connection and completely change the mood of an image.

Posing works alongside it.

Small adjustments in body angle, chin position, hands, posture and the placement of a child can substantially change how a photograph looks.

My role isn't simply to put you in front of a camera.

It's to use lighting, posing and composition intentionally to create a finished portrait.

Experience Matters When Photographing Children

I am a Certified Professional Photographer with more than a decade of professional photography experience and extensive experience photographing newborns, babies and young children.

That experience matters during Mommy & Me sessions because the portrait has to work for both Mom and the child.

Mom needs flattering lighting and posing. The child needs age-appropriate expectations and direction.

The successful portrait happens when those two things come together.

Mommy & Me Photography Isn't Just for Mother's Day

Mother's Day is a natural time to think about photographs with your children, but Mommy & Me portraits aren't seasonal.

They can mark a new baby, a birthday, a developmental stage, a family milestone or simply a period of life you want to remember.

Children don't stay the same until the next major occasion arrives.

Sometimes the stage itself is the reason for the photograph.
